OUR STORY

This is our Way to Professional football

Jorge González Rojo (ASTU)

His journey in football began on the pitch, developing in the elite youth ranks of Real Sporting de Gijón before competing in the Spanish Fourth Division with UD Santa Marta. Transitioning early into coaching, he demonstrated a natural talent for leadership; at just 23 years old, he achieved a historic promotion to the División de Honor Juvenil (Spain’s top U19 tier) with UD Santa Marta. He then made the leap to senior football with Ciudad Rodrigo, leading them to the Third Division.

His success caught the attention of a landmark project: Unionistas de Salamanca. Joining at the club’s inception, Astu served as both Head Coach and Sporting Director while managing the youth academy. In a remarkable five-year span, he led the team through four promotions, elevating the club from the bottom tier to professional football in 2ndB (now 1st RFEF). Following this achievement, he coached Unión Adarve in the same category during a challenging transition season.

Deciding to focus exclusively on sporting direction, Astu spent two seasons at CD Guijuelo and later joined the historic Real Avilés Industrial. After two impactful years, he returned to his home city to serve as General and Sporting Director for UD Santa Marta. His expertise eventually led him to the Technical Secretariat (Scouting & Recruitment) for Real Oviedo’s first team. After balancing both roles during the past season, he now focuses his talent exclusively on Real Oviedo in the Spanish First Division (LaLiga).

Alejo Gil González

Alejo’s journey bridges the gap between elite Spanish football and the American collegiate system. After competing as a semi-professional player in Spain, he made the strategic decision to transition into coaching at a young age. He began his career at the Unionistas de Salamanca academy, working with youth teams while simultaneously earning his Business degree from the University of Salamanca (USAL).

His tactical growth led him the opportunity to work with the United States college Lenoir Rhyne. where he served as the First Assistant Coach at Lenoir-Rhyne University (NCAA DII) in Charlotte. Over three consecutive seasons, he played a key role in leading the team to the Conference Championship finals. Also Alejo brought his international expertise to UD Santa Marta de Tormes (3rd RFEF) as a Team Analyst and Assistant Coach, before taking the reins as Head Coach of the U19 squad in Spain’s second tier. There, he led a historic turnaround, taking the team from the bottom of the table to the top spot in just one season.

In the summer of 2025, Alejo reached a major milestone in American soccer by becoming an NPSL National Champion with Hickory FC. As an Assistant Coach, he helped the club in their third historic season to achieve a «Triple Crown» season, culminating in a National Title and a promotion to USL League Two for 2026. Now a UEFA PRO licensed coach, Alejo combines elite tactical knowledge with a deep understanding of the U.S. recruitment pathway to guide the next generation of student-athletes.
